DIY Workshop: Grounding with Clay at Home

Type: Step-by-Step Workshop Guide

You don't need a kiln or a potter's wheel to experience the therapeutic benefits of clay. This 60-minute at-home workshop uses air-dry clay to help you ground yourself.

Materials Needed:

  • 1 block of air-dry clay
  • A small bowl of water
  • A quiet space with a flat surface

Step 1: The Tactile Connection (15 mins)

Close your eyes. Take a piece of clay and simply manipulate it in your hands. Squeeze it, roll it, flatten it. Notice the temperature and texture. If you feel stressed, squeeze it as hard as you can. Let the clay absorb your physical tension.

Step 2: The Pinch Pot (30 mins)

Roll the clay into a smooth sphere. Press your thumb into the center, stopping before you break through the bottom. Slowly pinch the walls while rotating the clay, thinning it out into a bowl shape. Focus purely on the rhythm of pinching and turning.

Step 3: Reflection (15 mins)

Wash your hands and look at your bowl. It won't be perfectly symmetrical, and that is exactly the point. It is a physical manifestation of your time and energy. Leave it to dry as a reminder of your grounded state.
